Photography for me started out as primarily a way to document the world around me - in an era before camera phones. Eventually I discovered the artistic side of it and began to surprise myself with what I could create. I like to explore new photographic techniques and am currently fascinated with intentional camera movement.
For a time, I worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on supply boats which would serve the oil rigs. The destruction and danger was clear on this day, when a failure on this platform had led to an explosion and fire which could not be contained. The rig was abandon and left to burn, which was still happening when we passed by. I took this photo with my cell phone through the lens of some binoculars. I'm hoping photography will lead me on a safer, greener, and more peaceful journey.
After leaving the oil industry, I began working on smaller coastal boats. In this photo, the barge we normally used to move trucks and equipment was loaded with fireworks for a private display. Fireworks are also quite bad for the environment, but it was an interesting experience.
For me, life doesn't get much better than this.
